Oliver was born in the German state Bad Hersfeld / Hessen.
At the young age of ten years he discovered the Elvis Presley’s music. Thus
began a lifelong passionate interest in the star’s personality, talent and
career. Young Oliver’s adulation for a dead man distressed his parents
immensely. Remarkably when he was 18 years old he realized his own ability
to sing. So he commenced studying videos of Elvis Presley, practicing the
lyrics with great success. As a result his obvious talents attracted serious
attention within his circle of friends and acquaintances. He started
receiving requests to perform for small and large parties then later at
discos. His repertoire included current popular music but always he returned
to the “oldies “such as Tom Jones –Delilah, Frank Sinatra –My Way, Dean
Martin – Everybody Loves Somebody, Ben E. King – Stand by Me. The audiences
were captivated by his strong and soulful voice. It wasn’t long before radio
stations and television studios became aware of Oliver’s wonderful talent.
Many agencies pursued him. He was regularly receiving invitations to perform
at different venues. Oliver, by this stage, had the reputation as a charming
and very accomplished artist. His fascination with the life of Elvis
remained unabated.
In 2001, while living in his hometown Dortmund and
after watching many disappointing “Best Elvis impersonators”, he decided
to become serious about establishing himself as the next Elvis Tribute
Artist (ETA). There was only one King of Rock and Roll and nobody could
replace him but Oliver tried hard to copy the Elvis style with respect.
Commencing January 2002 he started promoting himself and commenced a
successful tour throughout Germany, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland. In
Bad Nauheim his performance proved to be sensational. The adoring
audience made it quite apparent they did not wish the show to end. He
received multiple encores. Not only his voice but his appearance became
the topic of conversation amongst all of his fans. He was described as
totally different from all other impersonators.
In August 2002 he had his own Elvis tribute concert with orchestra and
chorus in the Dortmund Casino. His popularity soared and the audience
demanded to buy his CDs. After the show he was introduced to a Swiss lady
Jaqueline Raphael a well known expert on the life and music of Elvis
Presley. She soon agreed to be Oliver’s manager.

Opportunity presented itself again in
October 2002 when he attended a show in the Vienna town hall performing with
the original musicians of Elvis Presley. By chance Nancy Sinatra happened to
be part of the audience. Her enthusiasm over his talent was quite apparent.
The former co actress of Elvis Presley gave him much praise and stated his
performance excelled compared against other performers in Las Vegas. She
extended an invitation promising to give him the necessary support if he
performed in Las Vegas.
For May 2003
Jacqueline Raphael organized two shows in Rock n’ Roll Café Memphis next
door to Graceland. As a result of his excellent performance Oliver became
known as “The Echo of Elvis”. In 2003 Oliver performed in Basel and Bad
Nauheim with his band and John Wilkinson the former guitarist of Elvis. One
of the highlights of his career occurred January 2004 in Las Vegas when he
managed to be Number 10 out of 77 competitors in an official Elvis
impersonator contest. (In spite of having a severe case of influenza at the
time). But the supreme accolade of his career eventuated 6 weeks later when
he attended a contest in Minnesota/Minneapolis achieving the status of being
the first German to win such a contest. Oliver Steinhoff is now one of the
few artists worldwide performing with the former Elvis Presley musicians.
