'The HillBilly Cat' :

A Tribute to Early Elvis

Mark Lee Pringle as the "HillBilly Cat", a Tribute to "early" Elvis 1954-1958. He has been an Elvis fan for as long as he can remember, but his favorite era is the "Fifties"! Mark has borrowed Mr. Presley's voice before with numerous Country bands in the seventies and eighties, but has just recently decided to enter the world of ETA's (Elvis Tribute Artist).

Mark has been an ETA for the last five years and has placed second-place in the very first contest he was ever in; then First-Place in the next following two contests!  He enjoys just getting together with all of the other fellas' and singing and joking around more than the competition part.

Mark has  played guitar since he was five years old', and ended-up going to college for Jazz Guitar after he graduated from High school. He also plays piano on a song or two during select concerts, as well as being the ONLY Elvis tribute artist, (so far) to use a full size replica of the RCA "Nipper"-Dog on stage, just like Elvis did during his 1950's concerts.

Elvis was billed as the "Hillbilly Cat" and the "Memphis Flash" when he first started to play such venues as the "Louisiana Hayride" and the Texarkana tour circuit. Likewise, Mark's show represents what an actual concert would have been like from that time period. Mark's voice and on-stage appearance will take you back to the "hip-shaking" raw energy that Elvis portrayed on such TV. shows as Milton Berle and Ed Sullivan.

Performance  January '06 Ch.27

(cont'd)

Mark makes most of his detailed out-fits shoes & ties for his 50's Tribute to Elvis. "You just can't find the exact clothing that Elvis used to buy at Lansky Bros.' anymore!," Mark says. He makes sure that all of his guitars, microphones, and out-fits are as authentic & exact as he can get them! He owns all of Elvis' performance guitars from 1954 to 1958,..from the stick-on letters & leather-cover of his early Martin guitars, to the J-200 Gibson! Mark even make sure the guitar-straps are identical to Elvis'!

He uses the same RCA and Shure microphones that Elvis used during his 50s' shows and even matched what he wears to what Elvis wore per' show, fifty years ago and, explains it to the audience.

Mark now performs in full make-up and fifties style wig and out-fits that are exact copies of the ones worn by Elvis from 1954-1958.

Mark contacts many cities chamber of commerce for old' newspaper articles , of when Elvis performed there in the 50s'. Most of the articles describe the songs Elvis sang and what color jacket or shoes he wore that evening. He loves the "detail' finding part of this hobby/career!

Here are photos of the performance from Mark's June 5th.'06.  50yrs.ago Elvis wore this same exact replica out-fit on the Milton Berle Show.  Lavender sport-coat, Black&Pink golf-shirt, black pants & shoes, white-socks with a cool zigzag pattern up the sides. He sang into the same type of microphone, RCA DX-77,..which was a standard studio mic. back then. Plus,.. the same watch & sapphire pinky-ring on the left hand, and horse-shoe ring on the right hand.  Mark loves getting as much of the out-fit as correct as possible for each performance,. and, the audience seems to enjoy it also, when he explains it.
